Thomas Harris has written 5 books---his 1975 book "Black Sunday" predicted 911. His subsequent books---Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, and Hannibal Rising are all extremely well-written, with great sentences, dialogue, paragraphs, plots, and vocabulary. He takes his writing seriously.
Dr Seuss was the greatest writer of the 20th century, JK Rowling and her Harry Potter books are wonderful, Mario Puzo and Fredrick Forsythe created their own genres---the political thriller, the mafia books. Forsythe's "The Deceiver' is a masterpiece of four novellas.
Jack London rocked. Oh, he was an awesome descriptive writer...wow. best short story---"To Build a Fire."
Steven Vincent Benet---also awesome
An obscure but awesome writer, who does wonderful books about South Africa is Lynn Freed---Home Ground, The Bungalow, and Reading Writing and Leaving Home. She's awesome. Worth a look.

My favorite would be Nicholas Sparks...
He is the author of A walk to remember and The Notebook which was both now on movies. He is famous for writing dramatical/romantic fiction. I love his novels, it inspires me alot. He was such a great one. Among his books, my favorite was A walk to remember, The Notebook and The Wedding. The book Th Wedding is actually the continuation of The Notebook. All of his books were actually good. But I prefer those three. Because for me, those were his greatest works. ^_^

John Saul, very creative keeps you interested. Horror and Science fiction
Robin Cook , makes the hospital a place you even wouldn't want to visit. Medical mysteries.
Dean Koontz, makes the macabre seem like it's knocking on your back door. Horror and Sci Fi.
Steven King, Makes your everyday fears come alive when you least want to remember them, Horror and Sci Fi.
Steven Kings favorite book was The Stand.
I have most of all these authors books, All of Steven Kings.
So for the other three you can e-mail me and I would have to think about it . All of theirs are equally good.

My favorite author is definitly Stephen king. His character development in his stories are phenominal. He makes you feel almost a personal connection to his charaters. You almost get lost in his books as if you are in the story yourself. As far as favorite stories by him, there are too many to mention. I will say this however, the story of the green mile was done exceptionally well in the movie. Usually the movie is far off from the book but in this instance the movie was very close to the book
