I have a 1994 toyota pickup 4x4 and when i turn the key all i hear is a rapid clicking sound. Im thinking its the starter because theres plenty of juice in the battery (enough to run all my interior lights radio & headlights) but while it clicks all the lights get very dim...ive never had any warning of this like the typical one or two clicks then start, it just went from working fine to the clicking i mentioned above...can any of you help me out?

the battery terminals & wires have no corrosion on them at all...when i turn the key the lights dim a lot...the clicking sound is comming from the starter...im charging the battery now if that doesnt work i'll pull a battery out of one of my other cars & see if it works...the alternator is fine... so that leaves the battery & starter right? when i switch out the batteries i should know for sure?

you have a weak battery or loose cable, if you have a battery charger try charging it,if not you will have to replace it. it's not uncommon for batteries to be working one day not the next.

Its very common for a cell in the battery to go bad providing 12 volts of power but no amperage. starts on the truck probably draw 130-150 amps. The only way to eliminate that battery is to replace it or take it to a parts store and have it load tested. It's probably not the starter itself when starters go they either dont do anything, or they clunk once and its loud. A solenoid is ur most likely and cheapest bet if its not the battery.

charge the battery first. every thing else in the car doesn't use the same amount of energy(amperage) that the starter does. if you have had a clicking issue, it may be time for a starter solenoid, or you may be able to clean the old one up,but that takes a little bit of explaining.....

sounds like the starter is going.
The click-click means a starter.
If it sounds like it wants to start, but won't - it's the alternator.

You have a click-click.
Its a '94 so if you have any mechanical skills, you should be able to replace it yourself.
Go to a junk yard, get a used one, buy a 12 pack, call some buddies, and go at it.
