I prefer just a few close friends. My best friend I met 31 years ago in the 7th grade and we are still like sisters.

Yes, because of both my work and my hobbies, I do have a large number of acquaintances - which means I have a 'social relationship, which is less intimate than friendship' with such persons.
When an acquaintance happens to grow mentally closer, he/she can no longer be rated as a mere 'acquaintance' - and is then classed as a personal friend. And, in this category, my really close friends can be counted with the fingers in one hand !

Only a few close ones....you can only really trust your close friends....acquaintances are only there to pass time...and maybe they can become one of your close friends in the future...you never know.

Yup, just a few close friends, but I know a lot of people that I call "friends", but they don't know the 'inner me'.

I totally agree.
Genuine 'good' people are very hard to find.
Therefore a few good friends is good, and you are lucky to have a few!
