I was using System Mechanic today and toying around with whats in my startup, and msconfig was labeled as a dangerous program due to being used by viruses. It's currently disabled apparently, but I was surprised to see that an included MS program was labeled dangerous.

msconfig is NOT dangerous, System Mechanic is! It is a 'one-touch tool for dummies', that can really screw up settings. msconfig is a Microsoft utility for controlling which programs run on Startup and such, as well as System Processes. If it is being blocked by your program, I would unblock it.

Personally, I would stay away from tools like Systme Mechanic, RegVac, RegWiz, all that stuff. They are supposed to be user-friendly, but inexperienced users can actually end up doing more damage than good.

Cheers

No. It's not.
Msconfig.exe does have the ability to configure the startup. And System Mechanic's algorithm is assuming that a startup configuring utility can be dengerous.

Don't worry. Configure your System Mechanic to think it as safe Program.

Msconfig is "dangerous" if misused. It's an interface into the configuration your computer uses to start up. If you make inappropriate changes using Msconfig, it can cause your computer to stop working properly.

It is not dangerous. What is dangerous is leaving your PC vulnerable or unsecured. What is dangerous is clicking away and downloading at all enticing sites. What is dangerous is not regularly backing up your files.
