According to Section 4.1.7 ii of Her Majesty's Government Animal Handling, Ownership and Care Directive, you can be up to 75 years of age before you are legally deemed 'too old' to own a hamster. After this time you may be registered as a second carer for a Hamster, but it must be listed under ownership of another, younger individual (who holds a current driving license / passport / original birth certificate).
I jest. Just buy the little bugger ;-)
Enjoy.

buddy, hamsters aren't all THAT cheap we have two now since Jan and between the proper cage, toys, food, beds, and miscellaneous extras that all the pet websites recommended we probably spent about three hundred already---and it's not like we buy them the expensive stuff! It's just that they need more care then most people would guess
and in answer to your question: I've known five year olds more equipped to have a dog than some 50 year olds and for that same token I've known 50 year olds more equipped to have a hamster than some five year olds: in other words we get the pet that is right for us and that's that some people don't have time or space for certain animals-some people are just attracted to certain animals...what ever the reason, age doesn't define which pet is right for us-we do
enjoy the hammie-I know you will

Not if you like hamsters.
Sounds like an ideal pet for your lifestyle! They really don't get lonely like some pets do. They need a running wheel though.
I'm 59 and trying not to have so many pets. I don't have rats or mice anymore, and I'm not that fond of hamsters personally. I'm looking for another Madagascar hissing cockroach, but haven't seen any for sale lately. But I still have the dogs cats and birds.

My sweetheart, you are never too old to have a pet. A hampster would be great if thats what you would like. I am 54 , a nana and believe it or not, I have three tanks of gerbils.... I love them and I think they `love` me in return.
When I go out, I tell them I wont be long, I say goodnight and good morning to them. And chat and play with them in between times. When I have been shopping, they all come to the front and squeak away at me.
Go for it Kiddo, you wont regret it, I promise.

Of course your not to old! Hamster's can make great pets, as long as they get the right cage and toys, and you can buy some cool stuff for them now! You go buy one if you want one! I'm 29 and I wouldn't be put off by my age!

don`t be silly, age has nothing to do with the ability to buy a cute pet. at 21 years i bet you either work or go to school and hamsters don`t need that much attention, so if you want a pet, this is the ideal fluffy animal for you! go ahead to the pet store.

heck no it's the responsible thing to do. You know the amount of time you have to dedicate to an animal and hamsters are cute and wonderful companions and yes very cheap. I'de get one if I didn't have to worry about my ferrets eating it. GL

they dont necessarily look after themselves, although theyre small they still require care, and regular cage cleaning. Its never too old to give one of these animals a loving home they deserve it, just be prepared for all the responsibilities of having an animal, big or small.
