Can pregnancy tests be wrong? on under certain circumstances. My girlfriend had her period and about 7 days+ we had safe sex(using a condom). She decided to randomly take a pregnancy test 7 days later (two weeks from her period). The urine test showed positive and she doesn't want to have a baby yet. Is it possibly she can be pregnant or the test is just inaccurate. I know 99% of the people recommend take the test after a missing period but in my case it was just random. please reply with your personal experiences, thank you.

These tests are extreemly accurate. I have to agree with others who have said it is more likely that she would get a false negative test than a false positive. The negative usually happens because a woman tests before there is enough HCG hormone to be detected in the urine. These tests are very similar to the ones used in the doctor's office. You should go with her to the doctor's office and have a blood test... Good Luck!

Alex makes some good points.

Did you have sex and only put the condom on for the finale?
If so, you may have "leaked" some out without knowing and she is pregnant.

Where did the condom come from? Are you SURE she didn't want to get pregnant????

You have some things to think about.
But to be sure, you should wait until she has actually missed a period and take another test.

Oh, and it is not too likely that a pregnancy test would read positive that soon after conception. Was her period very light and short? Maybe she is much more pregnant that you think.

Good luck!

Yep they can totally be wrong, these tests are looking for the hormone. the reason its after you missed period is so it gives it enough time for the hormone to show up so if you took it after a period like that its unlikely that she would be pregnant, unless she was pregnant before hand. in very few cases some women did get their periods while pregnant or they were pregnant and had a very early one miscarriage (which by the way are quite common) all of this depends on the type of period she had, short and very heavy?, i would suggest going to say planned parenthood or the doctor where they have more advanced tests and not only take one now but take one on the day that her next period is to start just to make sure enough time has gone by and tell them everything to what kind if any of the lube did you use, what the period was like and on the month before was there any, "accidents" that you wrote off because she got her period. good luck!

I'm sorry but why did she decide to take a test "randomly"? If you were having safe sex then it just seems kind of weird that she would randomly decide to take a test especially before her period was due. Something must have given her a reason to test. Did she maybe miss a period without you knowing or maybe, and I'm sorry to ask this, she had unprotected sex with someone else. If it's not you having the unprotected sex with her than I would really talk with her and figure this out. Sorry to say but a positive test is a positive test. They are usually pretty accurate. Good luck.

They usually can be wrong, when showing a negative result in my experience. When positive though they have been right on the money. Take your time and don't stress over it all. No matter what you'll work it out what's best for the both of you. You need to know that you are in this together and not against each other. That will help things. Also try to buy tests online, they are much cheaper and produce doctor's office quality.

Actually, there are such things as false positives, they just almost never happen. From my knowledge, two things can cause a false positive;
1) Faulty test. These happen from time to time, several brands have had factory recalls throughout the year
2) In very rare cases, urinary tract infections can cause false positives. They generally have to be REALLY bad ones...I know, because I've gotten this kind before.

What I would like to know is why she tested...has she done random tests before, is that common to her nature? Was it a gut feeling that she should? Was one lying around and she's never used one before and wanted to see it? Knowing this would help me make a better judgement call.

Either way, the next step is to go see a doctor to confirm. If you are pregnant, he'll give you your steps from there. If its a UTI, she'll get antibiotics, and if its none of the above, I recommend calling the test manufacturer.

Yes a store pregnancy test can be wrong, but if you go to a clinic then you'll know. I had sex with my boyfriend and i missed my period and i thought i was pregnant even though we used a condom. I bought a pregnancy test and it told me positive. I found out 3 weeks later that i wasn't pregnant.

I had taken a test randomly once and it was positive. I had no signs no missed periods and it turned out the test didn't lie. Have your girlfriend take another one and do to the dr. Home pregnancy tests are pretty accurate and can give you results before you have missed your period.

When using these test at home kits, they tend to be just about as accurate as the one the doctor will do, however, they tend to not show a pregnancy when in fact you are, rather than show that you are pregnant and you really aren't. I think that you and you girlfriend are pregnant, and believe me, it is the truth............You both are pregnant. Arrange for a visit to the doctor and then plan on what you are going to do in order to make this forthcoming baby a stable and secure home. Good Luck.

test are mostly right just in case you should tell her to go get a blood test done cause those are more accurate plus most of the time you can't tell that your pg intill you're about 3-5 weeks so the best thing is to go get the blood test
