I killed a black widow spider that had spun a web in front of my door yesterday, it had spun a web, but I don't think I saw any eggs, there were lots of small black things in the web (nats maybe?). I am terified of spiders and what I am trying to find out if I should have the house sprayed. If I have one does it mean their could be an infestation? I found it outside, so I know that doesn't necessarily mean that we have them in the house, but there are lots of bushes by the front door where I found it.

Positive it was a black widow, it had the red markings on it, but I don't think it was all that mature, it was rather small.

black widows love hot weather. I now live where its always
cool and have only seen 1 in 10 years. But the answer:
they love to set up house just under the lower part of your
siding. They do not like high traffic areas. Anywhere they
can crawl into and hide. I'm surprised you saw a web because
they like to keep them in a hidaway place. There is another
spider that looks like a black widow but is not. Look on
Wikipedia and get an accurate description of poisonous
spiders. Yes, they are deadly if you are bitten in a vulnerable
place.

We also have those offal black widow spiders! I kill them every time I see them! I do not like sprays but for the welfare of our kids and pets Mr. does spray under the house. We also have things set up out side for wild birds who eat these bugs.

We had a English mastiff dog the vet said was bitten by either a insect or a poisonous snake, we think it may have been a black widow spider.....he passed on (died) from it.

Black widows are bug eaters. Are you sure it was a black widow. They have a definite red hour glass on their belly. We had them on a ranch we lived on. We did not spray but they weren't aggressive. We just watched out for them and made sure to remove them from places we didn't want them. My daughter has them where she lives and has small children so she has her house and yard sprayed every month.

If it makes you feel better, go ahead and call an exterminator. But if the exterminator is honest, he will tell you that insecticides do not effect spiders very much.

I don't think the expenditure would be worth the results.
