Read the instructions. You may have a degrees to radians toggle switch somewhere and it is set to radians while you think you are entering degrees.

If there is a degree sign next to the number, then it is in degrees. Otherwise it is in radians. To change it to radians or to degrees, press mode (next to the blue 2nd button), then go down 2 (press the down arrow twice) and either choose radians or degrees by moving the left and right arrow buttons. Make sure you close the parentheses after you type in the problem.

If you are entering degrees, then go to Mode and make sure it is in DEGREE mode, not RADIAN mode.

If you are entering radians (with pi), go to Mode and make sure it's in RADIAN mode, not DEGREE mode.

When you put in something, it should look like this:

tan(2pi/3) or tan(120)

If you are doing Arctan or tan^-1, you have to do 2ND --> tan(of whatever).
