The responsibilities of gun ownership are huge.

First, you must know all the safety rules on how to operate, store, clean your gun. It is especially important that you keep the gun out of children's hands. (Hiding it is not enough.) It should be stored unloaded and locked in a secure place.

Second., you must understand all gun laws so that you know when and how you can lawfully carry your weapon and when you can't. If you want to carry your weapon on you, you will need to obtain a Concealed Handgun License if it is allowed in your state. You will also need to know what the restrictions are regarding carrying a concealed weapon and know if it allows you to carry in other states. (The laws are different in each state.) If you're a hunter, you must also understand the laws and hunting regulations and be sure you get the proper licensing.

Ah an interesting query !!

Federal law, State law, Municipal laws would apply !! Quite abit of research could go into this !!

My OPINION is your responsibility is to:
a) own them legally
b) keep them safe and secure
c) use them legally and responsibly

I for example, keep 2 "assault-rifles", 4 rifles, 2 shotguns and 4 handguns (all legal) in my home. ALL but one shotgun are kept in a gun-safe... and those weapons are stored without their bolts / firing pins and separate from ammunition.

I ONLY fire my weapons on a range or a safe hunting ground... I took and teach NRA safety programs... my wife and kids have taken those courses.

GUNS aren't toys, they are TOOLS.

Honestly, I've seen folks to whom I don't think the 2nd Amendment SHOULD apply to !! Do recall that the founders actually meant for those rights to apply to men of age who held property...

A VERY interesting query !!

Safe use of a weapon, know and understand when and how to use enough force to protect you and or your family, do not make a threat with weapon, know when to use deqdly force, know how to use your weapon. Also remember that you are "part of an armed and trained militia" as put forth in the Second Amendment.
