Take your starter to an auto parts store to have it checked. They can tell if it is bad or not. Make sure you look at the starter pinion gear. That is cheep to replace, compaired to the starter. But if the starter is bad, then it will cost about $100-$150 depending upon the model of starter, and where you get it.

I have never found a "cheap" starter. They run close to $100. Why don't you take your old one apart, clean it, and replace the brushes? Getting the brushes back in can be fun but it may save you some bucks.
