Well I don't want you in disease control or anywhere having to do with medical chemistry, the designing of medications, trying to figure out if I should have a 20 cc injection , 120 milligrams pill, or 80 milligrams because of my mass body size. In research or development of artificial parts and limbs---- I don't even want you to figure out my bill. Are you talking about taking Pre--Pre Med at a Junior College . First you have to get past Chemistry and some major math classes even before going to Med school (not pre-med). If you are already in Med-school then you don't suck as much as you think. Not only that but you have to know how to do word problems (1) how many people do i have to see today to pay for my staff, school loan, car payment, vacation house....................? So you wonder if you have to be good at math to be a Doctor--- Yes.

I know what you mean man, about the suicide thing. Man my situation is totally different from yours, but I've been in that place, not really wanting to kill yourself, but just wanting it all to stop. Thing is though, it's temporary, and there will be times when you don't feel like that, but I don't suppose I'm telling you anything you don't know. Hey look at these replies you got already, people care, people you don't even know care. That's true in life. Don't be afraid to ask for help, you talk about the 1800 suicide thing, man they're there to help even if you ain't gonna ever do it. I'm not some religious nut or nothing but if you are that low try praying, what have you got to lose? I think the best answer to depression is to make plans, things are crap now, but you can get some hope that they won't always be. Make simple plans, just little changes you can make. I'm not gonna tell you to get off the dope but maybe try and cut down, make a rule that you won't get high before 6pm or something. Try and get some exercise, go for a walk round the block, exercise releases chemicals that make you feel better. Plus you're getting out, seeing something other than the same four walls. Maybe keep a diary even if it's 'Got up, felt ****, got high' you're doing something. Small steps man. Have a little think about what you like doing, anything at all. I told my kids the other day, write out a list of all the things they've ever done that was fun, so when they're bored they can look down the list and find something that they fancy doing. It's stupid, but it works. Life is crap basically, but not all the time, it goes up and down, and all the people you know that have these fantastic lives, it's true what someone else said, you just don't know the crap they have in their lives, everyone has a heap of crap. Hang in there man, you're young, and it will get better, just try and get through this. I'd add you on facebook, I think pretty much anyone who replied to this message would, I ain't coming round your house to blow smoke but it's the start of a support network ain't it. Hope you get your **** together man

Well to get into college and universities you definately have to have a decent grade to get accepted. However, you do need to know some math in your career. You can't be very bad at it and you obviously won't need to be good at something such as geometry. It won't affect that much but you definately have to know a good amount and be able to use logical reasoning.

Well, yes. You'll have to work extra hard at math and sciences courses in school to avoid getting bad grades, and you'll have to be extra careful not to prescribe wrong doses of medicine to patients.

Directly, it wil not affect your medical career. Indirectly, it might, because a command of math teaches logic, which is VERY IMPORTANT to a doctor.

Well, lets see.. if a 200 lb male requires a dose of no less then 2.5 mg per llb of meds to stay alive but 3.3mg. per lb will kill him faster then you can say 'oops'..

hmmm..

Thanks to Calculators, a person can survive with out the knowledge of even basic mathematics. Only thing you should know is four symbols : +, - , = , and division..and % to certain extent.
