It usually refers to molarity which is equal to the moles of solute per liter of solvent in a solution.

M = mol/L

It can also refer to molality which is equal to moles of solute per kilogram of solvent in a solution.

Molality = mol/kg

In chemistry, I am not sure what. In zoology, it is the tendency ot species to be located in a limited area because they adapt to the conditions of that locations (in the extreme - a long haired species develops on the cold of a mountain other wise located in a hot country.)
