Can someone please give me ideas on materials to use for my science project? I have to make a 3D model of a cell (animal or plant) Very simple. I need materials - practical ones. Please help!

well a simple way to make a sell would be to take a styrofome (sp) balla dn cut it in half, and mount the rounded ends or one of the halves on a bord of some kind. and then just look around the house for the rest
carboard is a good object, bouncy ball, coloring it, fabric, a sort of candy, and so on

Put one plastic sack in a small square plastic container so that the plastic sack completely lines the container. The other plastic sack should be open on a table. The plastic sacks represent cell membranes while the plastic container represents a cell wall.
Put the same amount of warm lemon Jell-o into the two plastic sacks so that they are nearly full.
Put the cell organelles into the Jell-o:
1 plum representing the nucleus
1 small grape for the Nucleolus
2-4 mandarin oranges representing the mitochondria,
2-4 green peas to represent the lysosomes
2-4 grapes to represent chloroplasts (to be put only in the square plastic container).
some lasagna type pasta to represent the Endoplasmic Reticulum
Small pieces of cardboard (with the corners rounded off and the flat edge split in half so that looking at it from the top it looks like a long, skinny oval) to represent the Golgi Body
small buttons form the Vacuoles
lots of regular table pepper to form the tiny Ribosomes
The plastic sacks should then be closed with a twist tie and refrigerated until the next day.

Tips
Make sure the Jell-o has enough time to solidify.
Sprinkle the pepper all along the cell wall and Nucleus (plum).
Use a good sized portion of pepper.

Warnings
This could be very messy. Make sure you have a parents permission and help before starting this project.

Things You'll Need
Plastic sacks
Twist ties
Lemon Jell-o
Boiling water
Large mixing bowls
Spoons
Square plastic food container
Plums
Mandarin oranges
Grapes
Refrigerator
Pepper
Cardboard
Pasta (better to use Lasagna type)

I think Hobby Lobby is the best store for this project. I made an animal cell. Buy a Styrofoam ball about the size of a basketball. Use candies for the parts of the cell. Here are some parts you might want to include. Nucleus Cell wall (plant cell only) Cell membrane Chloroplast (plant cell only) Mitochondria Vacuole Lysosome Cytoplasm Ribosome Endoplasmic Reticulum Golgi Bodies Oh, and you probably need to label them on the cell model. And their function.

Make an edible model: Jello for cytoplasm, raisin mitochondria, green candy chloroplasts, walnut nucleus etc. Whether or not you get an "A", you can enjoy the project for dessert. Provide a key to the parts, with the food name, cell part and function clearly shown; it's is as important as the model!

For a less messy solution, use a bent wire frame to outline the cubical or other shaped cell space and use sewing thread to mount colored paper models of the internal part in good relation to each other.
