I would say Pleasure. How soon we forget the painful response. Women are put through hell to have children, yet go forth and do it again anyway. When we remember that something was pleasurable we do what we can to ellicit that same pleasure response whether we remember how pleasurable ti was or not. In the case of pain we weigh how much it hurt against how much we will gain and often we forget just how much it hurt and opt for the reward instead. My children respond better to positive reinforcement by earning rewards far more than they respond to a spanking or other painful experience.

Pain tends to teach us lessons very abruptly. Pleasure on the other hand is best used as a reward for well earned behavior. Pain tends to bring us back to earth very fast. When I first injured my arm 8 weeks ago the physical pain was terrible, morphine eased the pain and then I was put on Oxycontin after the first week. That only lasted 3 weeks and then I went cold turkey with Tylenol. Now I am used to the pain and of course it isn't as bad. I rewarded myself with a new video camera which I have to use with my left hand. Everything is built right handed. It was an emotional reward and something to learn while I am off of work.

Pain causes fear. There by to only learn from pain means one must fear every thing. Pleasure causes enthusiasim. Thereby to learn only from pleasure would mean we would be enthusiastic about everything. So neither are better, but we must have a little of both. Fear is much stronger of the 2 emotions so that would say pain is the quicker teacher. However quicker is not always better.

You know, despite all the psychological mumbo jumbo saying otherwise, I think it's pain... if you're looking for results.

But there is the problem of the side effects of using pain as a teacher... ...

Better is a pretty subjective measure. I'd take pleasure over pain any day, despite it's shortcomings.

Peace

I'm not sure, but I think I have had enough lessons from pain for awhile. Where do I sign up for pleasure?
