Your eye constantly produces tears that maintain moisture and protect your eyes every time you blink (basal tears). Reflex tears are produced when our eyes get irritated. The third kind of tear is produced when the body reacts emotionally to something (psychic tears). The lacrimal gland, the largets of the tear glands, produces both basal and psychic tears and as long as this gland is in working order you can cry anywhere, including underwater.

Hope this helps!!!
