-How Many Stocks
There are over 10,000 stocks on the major US exchanges. Many more worldwide.

-Close
Close is the last traded price of a stock on a given trading day.
Go to Finance.Yahoo.com and type in a symbol like NKE (Nike) or AAPL (Apple computers) and you'll see the close price

-Total Worth
Total worth is generally the market capitalization of a stock (market cap). You take the # of shares outstanding (issued) and multiply it by the stock price and that gives you the company's worth or market cap.

Hope that helps!
