this is an opportunity to forge our strongest alliance w/in the ME, yet.

the separate factions are working together for the FIRST time in their history to squelch the infighting. the sunni's sudden opposition to al-qaeda can't be denied & they were previously their strongest ally. yet, the country has finally had their full of the random bombings that have claimed so many of their lives & together, want al qaeda out.

aren't these truly monumental changes within the country? a thread of hope that with our continued presence, these different ideologies will continue to come together to establish a country united in peace?

we can focus upon about their violent history, but when have they ever had the opportunity to come together before? saddam's regime was itself intentionally divisive, as he would have been greatly threatened had the country as a whole united against him. the people need time to build trust among themselves. can't we give a little more?

would you please post this question at least once a day?! You make an incredibly salient point and I say let's give them all the tools necessary to forge that way of life for all of them. You are brilliant!

This is truly a great turning point in the war against terrorism. To have the Sunnis turn against Al Qaeda at last! I bet, though that the liberals on here have no idea what we are talking about. lol

Absolutely. Whether we suceed or not depends on the cohesiveness of OUR society. If we feel that we have lost, then we will lose. I don't agree with sponsored rebuilding, but at this point we can not turn back.

If the war was for their oil, why haven't we taken any? That is still the silliest argument I have heard. We get virtually no oil from the middle east, what is wrong with these people?

The average American doesn't care about Iraqis as much as Bush & his administration say we do. We're all obsessed with terrorists and politicians, and we often forget that there are regular, innocent people over there getting bombed every day. The 28% who still support this war are the most blinded; their mentality is that we must win the war no matter what, and it doesn't matter who we kill in the process. It's a shame.

That all sounds very hopeful, but my experience is that you rarely ever get what you hope for (and don't get what you work for much more often than that).

No, we don't care about them. We just want their oil. And if we're going to be fighting a war for oil, WHY ISN"T IT CHEAPER!?
