I'm a 22-year-old and I've finally seen two episodes of The Simpsons. I loved them - they were clever and comical. I'm wondering if it's worthwhile checking out all of the episodes from Season 1 and beyond.
I ask because The Simpsons often includes political themese, current events, and celebrity mockery. Season 1 must've been created in 1984 or so, and I wouldn't be too familiar with the current events and politics from back then because I was either just being born or a small child. Would I lose the appreciation for the episodes, or could I still enjoy them?

It's irrelevant whether the show was started in 1984 or 1990 because the question is still valid and applicable with either years. Not knowing it didn't start in 1990 hardly makes anyone an idiot - rarely do people memorize the premiere dates of various TV shows. ; )
