He opposed the war in Iraq from the very beginning, that shows good judgment on his part.

Even if Obama gets the Democratic nomination I don't think that this election is any sort of test - he has almost no experience in government of any kind, serving only 2 years in the Senate. You will never be able to tell on this, but sure some people are racist, but I think most aren't. Look at the sort of support Colin Powell had - if he had run for president I think a lot of people would have voted for him.

The implication in this question, of course, is that any election result other than President Obama is proof that America is a racist nation.

Obviously, one can choose not to vote for a half-Kenyan upper-middle-class American political candidate for reasons other than race. For instance, he doesn't have much experience in government. Or, simply because you don't agree with his political views - they're not exactly centrist, after all, a lot of people don't want an immediate pullout in Iraq or socialized medicine in the US, just for instance.

Can you understand that concept - or are you too racist?

He has so little experience. That is the reason people won't vote for him. Look at the people running in the primary against him...much more experience. To me it seems that the only reason he is running is because he got lots of attention when he ran for congress a few years ago. He is still so young in the political field. He still has many years ahead of him, he should have waited till the next election (or two more if dem. gets in) so he will have more experience.

Race...I don't think that will even be an issue when he has near zero experience enough to win.

Just because people wouldnt vote for Obama, doesnt mean that they are racists. They may not agree with his position on the war, abortion, etc etc, skin color being the least of which to judge.

I dont vote for liberals even if they are as white as the wind-driven snow. They are bad for America. All they do is preach Bush hatred, raising taxes, and cut and run.

I think calling Obama a muslim, talking junk about his church, and implying that he is a terrorist is the tip of the iceberg--if Obama got the nod the racist, anti-muslim, terrorist crud would be never-ending. It's hard to separate the sick stuff that the political parties do from the self-serving junk the media spreads to sell "news", from the ugly sexism and racism that lies below the surface. The stuff that is getting thrown Bush's way is so tame compared to the murder conspiracy theories still going around about the Clinton's, which will go into hyper drive if she became the nominee. So it's hard to figure out what is more corrupt, our political system, our media, or if underneath it all, we still have a racist, sexist underbelly, that is once again being exposed.

We are a nation of immigrants. There are very few that can say they are full blooded Native Americans and the rest of us are immigrants. I am part Cherokee but not !00%.

Now that being said, I would really hope that we could see past the color of someones skin, or their gender, or their religious beliefs and vote for the person they are and the things they can prove that they can do.

Hey I have an idea.....why not listen to each candidate, do a little research for ourselves and stop listening to everyone Else's opinion. Then on election day lets all go out and vote for the person each of us thinks would best do the job. I know it is novel and a little outlandish, but hey, lets give it a go and see what happens.

Obama doesn't happen to be black you know. He's mixed so who is going to be racist towards him? But the real point is you don't elect or not elect someone on race or gender but who can do the best job. That is so not what you do!

Sir,
The fact that Obama is black (well sort of) has nothing to do with his elect ability. He is a beginner on the political stage and has yet to prove himself. I would not vote for him for two reasons. (there are more but this is for simplicity). 1) He is a democratic liberal and 2) He has not gained the necessary experience to be the Commander in Chief of the most powerful nation in the world.

Only a true racist would ask a question like that. So you think the only reason someone wouldn't vote for Obama is because he's black?

I think Obama has a real chance. I don't think most Americans, even Democrats, want a continuation of the Clinton/Bush dynastic conflict. America is ripe for a change, and Obama is a better candidate than most. I also like the fact that despite his African heritage, he isn't a one issue candidate. I think that he very acceptable to the many Americans, white and black.
