Favorite so far: Order of the Phoenix, because of Dumbledore's Army and the underground resistance to Umbridge's attempts to micromanage Hogwarts into the ground. Least favorite: Chamber of Secrets. I don't like this one as much because Ginny comes off as a ditz with a schoolgirl crush on Harry and a complete patsy for being possessed by Voldemort. And as we learn in the later books, she's got a lot more common sense and skill than she's given credit for here.

This is based on my memory, very slightly reinforced by a very quick look at the books.
PS/SS: James and Lily Potter, Quirrell, Nicolas and Perenelle Flamel
Cos: No one, although we find out about Moaning Myrtle's death
PoA: No one
GoF: Frank Brice (killed by Voldemort), Bertha Jorkins (killed by Voldemort), Barty Crouch Sr., Cedric Diggory, Barty Crouch Jr. (for all intents and purposes).
OotP: Broderick (involved with Voldemort's plot), Sirius Black
HBP: Amelia Bones (Head of Magical Law Enforcement), Aragog (the big spider), Unnamed Deatheater (in the attack on Hogwarts), Albus Dumdledore.
Interestingly enough, there are more deaths in the first book than in any other.

well, professor quirell died in the first book, then there's a complicated death in the 2nd book. he kills voldemort's self perserved 16 body, u'll have to read the book to understand. then cedric diggory died in the 4th book, then sirius black in the 5th book, and finally dumbledore in the 6th.
