One of rock music’s most influential figures, his career lasted only 2 years. He was born and raised in Lubbock, Texas, and was known for his trademark horn-rimmed glasses. His hits included: “Not Fade Away,” “Everyday,” and “Rave On.” In 1959, he was killed in a plane crash while on tour. Since then his life story has been the source of both a film and a musical.
