I'm kind of with partout on this one. Not really sure you are telling the truth. But if you are, you should TRY IT. You will look really toned in a few short weeks and it should improve any sports you play. The dress code seems a little odd as light blue isn't exactly a color guys commonly wear in ballet. But then again, they usually wear white or black ballet shoes too. The stick is for banging the rhythm on the floor when the students aren't following the music well. Its a very old and not widely used technique. This all just sounds like you came up with it from the stereotypes you have of ballet dancers, not like its real. But anyway, if you are going to the grocery store with your mom (?!) just pull some jeans and a hoodie over your dance clothes. No big deal. She can't force you to wear your leotard and tights into the store. Also, be prepared for it to be really awkward in class. The little girls are going to giggle around you and point and stare. You aren't going to have anyone to talk to. It will be weird. Just to warn you. But you may like it. And if you don't, you are almost out of the house anyway or you can tell your parents you gave it a try (that means more than one or two classes!) and you didn't like so you quit. And if you do like it, then yay!! You've found a new interest that makes you happy and you'll be in the advanced class in no time.

First, I think you may have some misunderstanding and lack of some knowledge that is needed to formulate appropriate responses. Being 18 you should be with males, not females. If that is not offered, then you would want to talk to studio about private lessons. Also, be aware that many, many, many football players take ballet! Believe it or not! So, the roughest men take ballet. Hope that part helps. Also, most dancers, male or female, do not run around in just their tights and leotards (which looks like a 1-piece bathing suit). You normally with go into and leave the studio with your tights and leotard under your outfit. Speaking of outfits, many male students do not have color coded loetards. Continue to research because there are some pieces to this story that are not adding up. Good luck and use the ballet classes for everything that you can!

I'm sorry that your being forced to do something you don't want to do.However, ballet is a dance that will strengthen your core- outside and inside.I'm fifteen and I have taken ballet for many years. In myopinion, it is the best thing I've ever invested time in but the level of enjoyment varies with the individual.A leotard is the bathingsuit type (for lack of better word)garment, that you put on OVER tights. The stick that the instructor is carrying around, well that is probably used for keeping track of rhythym count and steps.Rest assured you won't be physically abused! But be prepared to be pushed to your limits, mentally and physically.Because although ballerinas make it look like a piece of cake, ballet is not an easy thing.Make sure you eat a healthy meal before each lesson and lots of liquids. And, hey your 18, your parents can't force you to do anything for much longer anyways. Good luck!

I think you could definitely become pro, if you put enough time and effort into it. My guy friend began taking ballet, modern, and hip hop classes last year, when he was 17. The other day he was showing off his skills and he's just as talented as the rest of his class, even though they have mostly been dancing their whole lives. He could even join Broadway if you ask me. The same could happen for you! I would take an enormous amount of hard work and dedication, but I think it's possible.

I seem to recall the same thing happened to you 5 months ago: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AsJsTyipUrx7HVchikMEIR_ty6IX?qid=20061219223242AALvGTU
One would think you'd get out of the beginner's class by now, or at least learn what you're supposed to wear.
Unless it's one of your numerous fantasy questions again, just go to the class and do what everyone else does. You'll be fine.

I hope that I do not offend you, I don't mean to, but it is highly inappropriate for a man your age to be going to classes with little girls. You are a young man of eighteen years. Not a boy.
This is so remarkable that I am having a hard time believing it is true.
