I'm borrowing here from Leonard Pitts of the Miami Herald.
"If Hollywood doesn't represent American values, how did the money pile get so big?
Spider-Man 3 made $373 million last weekend. You do not sell $373 million worth of anything in just three days unless you have a pretty good idea who your customers are and what they want.
You kid yourself if you truly regard (Hollywood's) values as some alien belief system foisted upon righteous, defenseless Americans.
Hollywood is driven, like any business, by market forces. In America we vote with our money. And for all the talk about Hollywood as a bastion of liberalism, the truth is this business -- again, like any other -- is conservative.
People are generally conservative when it comes to their money."

Nice to see that a few of you got the point. Hollywood knows what people want and gives it to them. Result = profits. Sometimes they bite the big one, but more often than not, they know what sells.
It's all supply and demand folks ~ the great "American Way."

I also posted the question in Sociology, to get some different points of view, and one person replied,"Look to who owns the studios, not the liberal actors. Those people are in the business of making money."

No, "boredwithyou."
YOU need to do your own homework. Who's talking morals? I'm saying they know what we bite on. It's like being a successful angler. You use the right bait, you catch fish. You can't fool this guy. America is "the cheap seats" and Hollywood knows what we want.

What politicians have been elected from Hollywood? Ronald Reagan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, George Murphy etc. all Republicans. When I hear people talk about Hollywood values I think about people like this. This Hollywood liberal values is another myth (conspiracy theory) like the "liberal media". Sure there are liberals in Hollywood. Demonizing them is usually a veiled appeal to anti semitism.

Hollywood represents the views of those pulling the strings. There are many in this country that go to movies, support tv shows, and buy clothing because they are told to do so by a few public faces.
I know that Hollywood does not represent my beliefes. Gibson tried and was accused of being anit-sementic (sp??).

Is this a question or a rant? Hollywood is for "entertainment purposes only" and the sooner you and they find that out that they are not real, the better off we will all be.

"cheap whore" I'm still laughing, that was great thumbs up for ya.
Hollywood is a sensationalistic leech who appeals to the base bias and darkness within us all. Movies about hero's will do well, even when they suck. Movies about war will do well, even when they suck. Movies about love and relationships will do well, as soon as they get to video.
You say hollywood mirrors our values, I say you need to study your sociology a bit more.
