Even if you become a singer you still will be best off if you do well in school. The industry will be tough and you will be better prepared if you have had a good education. One day you may want to do something else like write songs or produce them. You will be more marketable if you have gone to a good school and received good grades. Good luck!

You have to motivate yourself my friend. However, let me say this. Remember your counselor saying to you that high school grads will make a better salary than drop outs...and college grads will make a big % better in salary than someone who only finished high school. Will the "big payoff" of the future be enough for you? Set small goals is my other suggestion. Make a deal with yourself and Reward yourself like a personal incentives plan. Say for example, you need at least a C on the next history/science test. Study, get someone else to help you study, review the important facts and if you do get a C or a better grade then buy yourself a small treat, an icee, an ice cream, or a new movie perhaps...but if you bomb the test then you don't get any treats for a week, until the next test. How's that sound?
Isn't there someone near you that is watching what you do? A little cousin, sister/brother, classmate who's struggling a bit more than you? Tell yourself, you are doing this because it's your job as a teen to get the most out of this education experience...it may not always be fun, but it is your number one priority right now in order to secure the future you want. And actually, a music college where there are music coaches and such isn't a bad idea. go into the counselor or the careers center and see if there are any brochures for music colleges/universities. Usually they are liberal arts, but you get a rounded education while you're pursuing the arts.
Maybe you need to remember the special people who believe in you? Great grandma who is no longer here, but guides you still? Fluffy the dog who smiled whenever you sang to her at night...? Your parents/friends someone must love you and will always support you, but supporting and getting behind your future plans once you graduate will make them feel they helped push you to do the right thing and graduate. but that comes back to my first comment, you really have to do this on your own. Only you know how you feel. And you would be harder on yourself for disappointing you than anyone else will/would!
Best wishes for the future and when you make it....get out there on stage and BREAK A LEG!! :)

Do you want to live under a bridge? As a hobo? Without any money, food, or means of supporting yourself?
Probably not. I always say that to myself when I am too tired or lazy to be studying, and it helps me. Besides singing, what about music in general? Try taking a music theory class. It is helpful to take classes you are interested in because it tends to motivate you more.
And instead of getting on your computer all the time, try reading a book or doing homework. It will help you get better grades, I promise. If you do well in school, its normally not so sucky.
Hope that helped a little =]

I once read a book about Hollywood and all that jazz, because I wanted to act, and I felt the same way. I've heard, "Don't have a back up plan! That way you feel you HAVE to stick to what you want to do, and nobody can stop you but yourself" and, although that may be true, I've heard a lot of other stories that lead me to believe that maybe you SHOULD have a back up plan. I got kicked out of high school and am currently enrolled in an alternative school. I'm failing my classes, and I have no motivation to do well. I have a lot of problems going on and my biggest thing is wanting to get out of my dad's house because things aren't right here. I want to get to New York City! So, I'm going to get my GED this summer and head on out there.
All you have to do is stay focused and be PATIENT.
Time is important. If you know it's going to happen, all it is, is a matter of time. Just work on it. Don't worry about anyone else. Focus on making YOURSELF better and improving the way YOU do things to get up to the top.

Picture yourself working 60 hours per week just to pay your rent OR 40 hours a week and drive a Lexus if you stay motivated. Definitely have a back up career but good luck.

I know it's hard, it was so difficult for me and I still to this day wish I had done better. That should motivate you right there, never leave anything half done. Always give your best effort and that will lead you to your final destination. Good luck and keep pushing forward. :.)

Ok, so less than 1 in a million make it in the music business. So think this, if I don't do well in school, I might end up someone's girlfriend in prison.
Or if you do make it, but aren't great at math, you'll be broke 'cause your accountant will steal all your cash and you\'ll be too dumb to know.

think aboout this: you are thirty years old and people of all ages arelined up to see you. theres so many people the line goes out the door. Your adrenalin is flowing, youre lookin sharp and very professional. And you know everyone is waiting in eager anticipation for whats about to come out of your mouth. children are looking up to you in wonder.
You steady yourself and think "I can do this". with determination and confidence you approach the microphone.
you smile at the crowd, take the microphone in hand and say
"welcome to McDonald's, may I take your order?"
