If there is not enough dust, you need to take a charcoal briquette and a very soft brush (or corner of a Kleenex) and brush the dust lightly on the print, then hold clear Scotch or packaging tape down with one finger near the print and roll the tape down so it does not shift. On dark surfaces, not knowing where the prints are, a white or light powder is used - talc, baby powder, or corn starch might substitute.

Sometimes the police spray a special starch and with UV light they can find the fingerprints glowing in the dark. Then they takes photos or lift the fingerprints with the scotch tape..

if thier is enough dust on the print use scotch clear tape and as long as you dont smear it your print will be perfect (the same as the print on the object)
