The root of despair is in the belief that life has some greater purpose and that we are standing outside of it. We are not a part of it. We don't belong.
Sometimes we fall prey to the mistaken belief that we are 'broken' or 'defective' and this 'must be why we don't fit in'.
All of us fall into this state from time to time, it's called depression. When we begin to lose hope, it turns into despair.
We begin to think there is no meaning, no purpose, that we are just another anonymous organism whose existence or non-existence doesn't matter to anyone or anything anyway. Pointless life.
This is despair in its trueist sense: The persistant belief that we do not have a legitimate place in the universe while surrounded by a million points of life that seem to be moving along in a great dance without us...
(It is no surprise that death, to a lot of people, is the ultimate state of despair, since death to them is the ultimate state of meaningless disconnection.)

As human, we are prone to despair that succumb to listlessness and failing aspirations. The depress situation can afflict the mood around. As such, allaying the grief of a person, or putting some sense in the despair occasion would end in somber mood as well.
We are taking things too hard and involving ourselves in problems of others. Off course, there are more than meets the eyes---the rudiments of despair. However, intimidation, work pressure, affair of the hearts, and loggerheads are incipience of despair coming our way. Moreover, despair can be devastating, possibly leading to suicide and mental anguish. In fact, there is no running away from despair of sorts. We either live with it amicably or straighten our attitude and lifestyles altogether.

Greed. It's only when you live life looking for stuff you can't have or you are not ready to have, that can cause you to fall into despair. Pay attention to the things only you NEED not want.

Idleness. As idle mind is a devil's workshop.
Working for a living, keeping busy means the total elimination of robbery, rape n all vices.
Also means less time for the minor vices such as gossip n slandering.
