Yes, I liked it; quick read about a tragic time of world history. It was full of so many "what ifs..."
I thought he did an excellent job of showing how human beings change when they move into survival mode, with him even wishing his father would die so he could get on with taking care of himself.
There were also some very graphic scenes, so he gave us a pretty thorough picture of what he experienced.

You know, this is a really interesting question. I never actually asked myself if I like the book until I read what you wrote.
I think the book is an excellent book. I think it is tremendously moving. But I don't know if "like" is the right word for how I feel about it.
I read "The Diary of Anne Frank" every year in December because it helps me stay grounded and focus on the more important things during that crazy onslaught of commercialism. I read "Night" every other year or so for the same reason (though not necessarily at Christmas). When you read a lot of Holocaust memoirs, you begin to see that most of the people who write them write them because they feel a need to bear witness to what they saw and experienced so that people will know what happened and not forget it. I think that's how I feel about those books, too. I feel like I need to read them, so that I, too, am able to say to those who doubt or minimize the Holocaust, "This was real--this really happened--the Jewish people were the target of a genocide that attempted to wipe them from the face of the Earth." Does that make sense?
What I am trying to say is that I don't know if I can ever use the word "like" to describe how I feel about books like "Night". I don't feel about them the way I feel about a novel or a regular memoir. I can look at them and say they are powerful and moving, and they affect me on a deep emotional level, but I can't really say I like them. The tales they tell are too difficult and heartbreaking to be read for pleasure.

Very tragic and very heartbreaking, I read it in two hours and missed a date for it.
I also met Elie Wiesel and I expected a bitter sad man. But I found a happy joking guy.
