Eric--wanted to answer this question so badly--sorry I couldn't until now. I think it's love that makes us who we are. Love is that one strange, wicked, wonderful thing that we posess that drives us, brings us to our knees, tears our hearts and souls out, and rebuilds that heart and soul again. Our passions, our desires, all because of this single greatest gift given us. We are driven, we are driven mad, we hunger, we are fulfilled, we seek, we find, we ask, we are given.....all because of love. We trust, we hope, we continue on all because of love. And, when the world ends, I think this one thing will be the one thing left; it will have no end. This is why we are who we are. Love.

In a very simple way, the shape of a liquid is depended on the shape of the container. If the viscosity of the liquid is high enough, it will only occupy the lower portion of the container like water. If it is not, then it will occupy the whole container like gas. So, analogically, the container is where we live in, the viscosity is how we bind ourselves (yes, a person has many sides of himself) together. If the viscosity (will, emotion and rationale) is strong, then we will not be forced to occupy the shape of the container (world). And off course, if the thing inside the container is too much, it will take the shape of the container or maybe portion of it will be spilled and wasted. So, it is very crucial to leave space in the container, so… take a break and have a cup of tea… :-D

There really isn't an easy answer to this as God made us all unique with special gifts and talents. Along the way of course we develop these personalities and gifts. I believe some is kind of inherited from your family especially the way we look. Also things can happen in our lives that help mold us into the person we are to become. I think being happy and cheerful and realizing our true potential is what we should strive to do putting God first always.

You're you

Don't strive to be the person you're not. Only you can be you. No one else can play your role as well as you do. Learn to celebrate being you.

Remember that the next time you feel inadequate about yourself and want to step into some one else's shoes.

A copy is a copy is a copy. You can always be original. By being yourself.

When the good Lord put you down on earth, he wanted you to be you. To want to be a better person is one thing, but to want to be another person is something else.

Try to be a better you. Try to be a happier you. But be yourself. You are the essence of your being. If you change that, you lose yourself.

That's the core of the issue.

is this not beautiful ? some one wrote it. i read it on line. i wanted to share.

we are sensory beings thrown into this world to learn.

We collect a set of beliefs that make sense on some level to us about who we are. Most people buy into the perception that the ways in which they perceive they are judged is who they are.

It is not until we search our own souls that we begin to understand our own inner being for the pure unique individual we really are.

so I suppose my simple answer would be, that we are who we are because of what we believe ourselves to be.....but this is always up for review!

If you are referring to our personality and what kind of person we are, I think it is parts of several factors.>>> whatever is inherited, (it's in the genes so they say) then part is family traditions and upbringing, ( however beneficial or not that may be) , part is the rest of the environment in which we live. and how that affects us. -- good or bad, and then --this could fall under the family part --but if we have a faith or belief system that we go by as well. For myself, it is a strong Christian faith that is a big part of who I am and how I view my life.

Our parents decided to show their affaction for each other at just the right time; the correct sperm dove through that waiting egg...

Years of experiences later...here we are

Now we go forward from here to be the best we can be.

we are shaped by our environment at a very young age!!first by our parents telling us what is right and wrong!!
then by our peers who make us rebel to the teachings of our parents, but also make us think on our own!!
then our teachers who give us their opinions!
and life itself!!
good situations!
bad stuations!
so we take all this info mix it up in our brains and out comes....the person we are!!

in the broadest version of your question three factors make you who you are.
how u percieve yourself, how others percieve u, and the truth...

in a simpler sense, our parents and environment dictate our MAXIMUM potential (Destiny),the choices we make narrow the variables down to whats left(Fate)
