what are they trying to achieve? (eg if u pass this on, u will have good luck for the next year)

Probably because because there are superstitious people out there who feel bad things (or good) truely will happen if they pass these emails on. I personally delete all these kinds of emails & reply back to the person who sent it to me that these kinds of emails are unwelcome in my household.

Old "chain letter" for the modern age.

Do NOT forward. It is considered spam.

The REALLY modern version is a virus warning, warn every one you know! (Except it's OLD, it no longer applies, and so on)

that's spam
move to spam folder or flag it as spam. so u wont receive it again.

it's like referral system + money game.
