A case could be made for Sammy Baugh. He was an all-time QB, an excellent defensive back (played both ways) and a punter without equal.

BRETT FAVRE!!!!!!!!!! no other qb could do what favre does. has peyton or brady had any off field problems such as favre has had? no. has peyton or brady made any great blocks like favre has made? no. has peyton or brady play with ferocity like favre has always played by not backing down from anyone? no they have not. favre picked fights with defensive linemen all the time and linebackers (sapp, hovan, porcher, urlacher). favre has yet to miss a game in in his entire career. yes favre isnt doing so hot right now, but they fact that he's doing this an entirely new team with a new system, its amazing. favre makes dumb plays at times, but he gives his guys a shot to get the ball. i cant count all the times favre's hard-to-catch passes were tipped by his receivers for an interception. (driver was famous for this). favre has broken more fingers than hockey players losing their teeth. theres a reason why favre has thrown all these records. so what if he has only 1 superbowl ring? the last 10 years in green bay, his defense was notorious. lets look at brady's pats. he has a defense throughout his career. he has the new addition of moss (before moss, brady never threw more than 30 td's). imagine favre with moss. favre would have chucked 50+ touchdowns! i could go on and on and on about favre. he is the greatest to ever play the game in the NFL.

Barry Sanders!
He was an exiting player to watch, he would always get away from defenders and make it look easy, he was fast and strong, very hard to tackle. But most important, he played for the poorly Lions and still manages to rush for 1000 plus yards on all of his NFL seasons, he finished with 15,269 for his career after suddenly retiring from football at his prime! Emmith Smith was a good player but his offensive line was at the time one of the biggest. If Barry Sanders did not retire he would have gain over 20,000 yards for his career, don't even get me started on if he played for a better team like the cowboys. If you saw Barry Sanders play, you know what I’m talking about!

Jerry Rice, hands down. No other player has dominated his position like Rice. Look at all the records he holds. Most of them won't be broken in our lifetime. There are many QBs with great stats like Marino, Elway, Favre, Montana and so on, but no WR comes close to Rice's numbers.

I think for almost any position you can have an arguement.
QB- Montana? Brady? Manning? Elway?
RB- Brown? Payton? Smith? Sanders?
LB- Taylor? Butkus? Lewis?
etc...
However when it comes to WR it is almost always universally agreed that Jerry Rice is #1. Since he is far and away the best at his position (and has the rings to boot) I would say that Rice is the best player of all-time.
