first thing's first, please do not suggest going to the apple store or the store i bought it from. i live in jamaica and apple doesn't service down here and i got it from a relative in america. the cord got burnt minorly near the part that goes into the ipod, but not that badly to the point that it would be affected.my main concern is the wax that is stuck in it. now the two things at the side that you squeeze down to control the hooks won't move. a friend suggested i put it in hot water to loosen the bond between the wax and the cable, making sure that afterwards i dry it off properly. i was just about to do that, but then i thought is this a wise choice? i went to an apple distributor that also services apple merchandise and they sugggested i get a new one, but i just want to make ABSOLUTELY sure that there is no way of fixing this one and that i have no other option. any help would be GREATLY appreciated-especially by my mom's purse.^_^

I do not recommend placing that cable in water. It will probably ruin it. Maybe you can put the cable in a plastic bag first then putting it into water? Another possibility is using a hair dryer and getting the wax to drip off that way?

I don't see a problem with quickly dipping the end of the USB cable into hot water in order to try and melt the wax from inside the connector. Just make sure of the obvious, 1) the USB cable cannot be plugged into anything while you're exposing it to water and 2) Be certain that the cable and the mating connection is completely dry before attempting to use it again.
If that doesn't work all you can say is you did your best, then go buy a new one and take better care of it. :)

Hope that works for you.
Take care, Mike

i wouldnt try put it into the hot water. you might get all dried off but the cords may still be wet then your ipod is gone. your best bet is to get a new one. that way in the long run it doesnt mess up your ipod.
