It'll depend on if you've got a margin or cash acct.

However, regardless of type of account. When you buy/sell stocks and/or have active orders in progress, your cash balance vs. trading balance will change.

So if you start the day with $1000 in each, but put in two trades that are being worked, but not filled, your cash balance might remain at $1000 while your trading balance decreased.

Likewise, if you sold some stock, your amounts may change as well, esp if you were using margin on the stock that you just sold.

Hope that makes sense!
