I have a Compaq Evo N1015 and I bought it in 2003. It has just one drive and once my system is infected by a virus or encountering any other critical problem, I loose all data on it. Now
I want to partition it into 2 or 3 drives. Does it reduce the performance of my laptop or make any other problem?

Yes, it is a good idea to partition the drive. Access performance should stay the same or improve slightly. Also when you go to defrag, you can do drive by drive (I know it is only disc, but it act as though it is many) and take your time. Do not forget to back up your data!

Not at all, I always partition all laptops for customers, using the second drive to hold an image of Windows, plus to store (or spare copy of data from C: )
