There are loads of ideas on making things with papier mache here:

http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLC,GGLC:1969-53,GGLC:en&q=papier+mache+crafts+projects

There are a lot of ways to make things with paper mash or paper strips though... it sounds like you might be thinking just of using sheets or bits of *tissue* paper and adhesive though, kind of similar to some types of "decoupage." If that's true, here are more things you might want to do like that:

http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLC,GGLC:1969-53,GGLC:en&q=%22tissue+paper%22+decoupage

You might also want to check out paper mash (buy the "instant" papier mache called Celluclay at a craft store, then mix it with water at home and use like you would be paper strips... or buy it premixed as Creative Paperclay, etc.)... or make your own wet paper pulp at home.

Here are some projects for that, though most of these seem to deal with using paper pulp only to create "homemade paper":

Here are some projects using Celluclay, etc., though so you can get some other basic ideas:

Paper mache is great for making masks. Use a balloon as a basic shape to form your mask on, or if you have any willing subjects form it directly on someone's face (use a lot of vaseline on the skin first). A friend of mine used clay to sculpt on top of styrofoam heads (used for holding and displaying wigs) then covered the clay with paper mache. Once you take the paper off the clay you have a very light-weight mask, and you can make them in a ny fantastical shape you can think up. If you're working with kids, though, the balloon technique works nicely.

I'm not an expert on paper mache, but I think the weak spot would be the cut edges. So to save those edges and to reinforce the whole thing I'd suggest using some type of tape, like duct tape to cover the edges and even to make a hinge. A more attractive alternative might be to glue some nice fabric along the edges, again to strengthen and protect it. Best of luck.

Blow up a baloon then cover with papier mache, let dry then stick a needle in it to pop the baloon, cut 3/4 way up top off and you've got a cute candy bowl!!!

you can use the same concept and make a potpourri holder... the other poster said to cut the top of and make a candy dish... what you cut of depending on how big you make it could hold potpourri. you can also take a Tupperware container and make a a jewelry box or a keep sake box.
