I'm going with Johan Gutenburg (inventor of the movable type printing press). While he only had one invention, it completely changed the world. Before his press, books had to be copied by hand. Because of this, they were expensive: only rich people could afford to have them. Therefore, only weathly people were literate. With the advent of the printing press, not only were books more widely available, but education (reading and writing) became a much more coveted skill. The ideas of the Renaissance and the Reformation could never have been spread without a way to disseminate information to a wide audience. The printing press was a necessary vehicle for moving Europe out of the Middle Ages into the modern era.
As far as inventions that changed human history, this was one of the biggest, revolutionizing Europe much more profoundly than the telephone in the 20th century or the internet in the 21st.

There are so many it's hard to pick. But Thomas Alva Edison created a lab where, not only he could work, other inventors were given the security to create. But then, I don't know much about the person who invented the wheel.

1-Thomas Edison-in my opinion. He gave us the light bulb, phonograph, and the motion picture, 3 things that have absolutely changed the world. One earth shattering invention is great, but three, thats amazing.
2-Alexander Graham(sp?) Bell-the telephone
3-Orville and Wilbur Wright-the airplane
4-Samuel Morse-The telegraph
5-Guglielmo Marconi-the radio
