#1- Not pumping gas on one day doesn't hurt the oil companies at all. It hurts the franchises around the United States. The only way to nail the oil companies (which is pretty pointless anyways) is to actually permanently reduce demand. One day won't do anything except make gas stations take a small dive. If you want to make an impact, get everyone to not pump gas for 3 straight months. (good luck)

#2- Prices won't drop until we permanently alter something to make it. Ie- public transportation, walking, biking, (fairly unlikely to make a big impact) or develop alternatives to oil-driven economy. While I'm on the subject, ethanol is overrated, fairly inefficient, and pretty wasteful to be throwing as much money at it as we are.

#3- If we're too lazy to innovate, we could drop the price of gasoline by doing a lot of things...stablizing Iraq, stabilizing Nigeria, protecting supply lines, all these things in the news that cause oil prices to jump. Or we could bomb China and India. (Note to President Bush: I'm not serious) They are jumping into the world economy and increasing the demand for oil...with a constant supply, of COURSE prices rise.

#4- High gas prices aren't necessarily a bad thing. The way I look at it, it's the only pressing incentive we will ever have to innovate our way out of oil-dependency. Notice the quick rise of hybrids, better-mileage cars, and those truck commercials that brag about trucks getting good gas mileage? (ha yeah right) There's a reason for it.

#5- Maybe people haven't noticed, but inflation naturally has led to higher prices.....everywhere. We're still lower than the early 80s in terms of inflation-adjusted gas prices.

The boycott is stupid, there is no differance if I fill up today tomorrow, or when whenever, because eventually I need gas to go to work, pick up kids, ETC. it's called life, left wing nuts. Supply and demand, the Oil companies are gonna get our money eventually, so it makes no differance which day you fill. All you people saying I will fill up today or the 16th what's the differance? Most people don't need gas everyday, most fill up once a week or twice depends on your job and what's going on. If you Nuts want to make a differance than set the example, ride your bike to work, use the T-Train if you have one in your city, Put wind farms on the coast of Cape Cod where I live, to increase energy on our area and less on oil and gas but THE GREAT HYPROCITES LIKE TED KENNEDY, JOHN KERRY AND Liberal buddies don't want that, Let's stop people like Al Gore flying on private Jets. I mean we can do alot so much more and a one day gas out is stupid. The Oil companies will get you eventually it's called supply and demand.

OK! I just filled up today ($31.17) so I won't have to buy gas tomorrow! Come on - a one-day boycott isn't going to hurt 'big oil'. Now, if you can get motorists to stop buying gas for a MONTH - that could make a difference! And, whatever the oil companies lose in gasoline sales on May 15th, they'll make up for on May 16th (and will probably raise the price just to twist the knife a little bit further into the American motorists' backs). -RKO- 05/14/07

I've heard about that too. I think that maybe it could work. I mean, gas prices are ridiculously high. The Bush administration knows this but they continue to allow it to happen because we as American citizens may be complaining but we aren't doing anything about it. Remember during the civil rights area when blacks stopped riding the bus to protest having to ride the back of the bus? The Bus system realized that the effects were damaging to the economic system so they eradicated the rule.

The same thing may not happen exactly with the gas, but maybe the Bush administration will see that we're tired of paying these high prices for gas and maybe it'll drive them to do something to bring down those prices.

If we don't stand for something, we'll fall for anything. That's just a thought. But hey, I don't have a car, so either way I'm participating! lol.

STUPIDEST idea I've ever heard! People who don't buy it then will only buy it on the 14th or the 16th. What do you accomplish by this? NOTHING! Stop using so much gas, that's the only way to lower the prices. BTW - you can thank Clinton for enacting the clean air act, that's what made gas prices skyrocket.

This will not prove anything to anyone. Lack of participation. People will only buy more gas the day before and the day after.
