Herodotus, whom most historians cite, said that the Greek army had 5,200+ men, including the 300 Spartans. A further 900 Helots (Spartan slaves) also fought at the battle.
The numbers changed later on in the battle as the entire army retreated and only the 300 Spartans, their 900 Helots, 700 Thespian volunteers and 400 Thebans (held as hostage against their will by Leonidas) remained.
Britannica says "Leonidas remained to delay the Persians with 300 Spartans, their helots, and 1,100 Boeotians, all of whom died in battle."

The Spartans were there own breed of people. They go through brutal ttrainimng in which only the best of the best survive. Some wars varied with the amount of soldiers. The Battle of Thermopylae only had 300 warriors while the Battle of Platea had 10,000 spartans

Unknown.
300 was used like 40 in the Bible, or like we use millions.
It just means a bunch.

Actually, it was 302...but the kitchen was short and you know how it is...
Incidentally...My girlfriend is Persian and she says that the whole film is BS and that anyone who watches it should be warned that something threatening will happen if people even consider to start to believe in the lies and the......wait......It's getting dark.........What's that 'whooshing' noise???
