I miss the mom and pop businesses. In the small town where I live the local grocer-er closed down last year. It was sad to see him close. I know Ken (the owner) well. Meijer and WalMart were too much for him
I think big businesses do not care. It people would brand together we could make them care. They have way too much control. They move in and cut prices and squeeze the little guy out, like in the movie "You've Got Mail". Fox books won the war.
I try and shop at small businesses. I would rather spend a little more money and have it go to local families.
Corporate America has taken over and has destroyed many little businesses and will crush most of the ones left soon.

Big companies run the Government -- almost. They have deep pockets and put jobs in States and consituenties.
They are the big hirerers and their employees pay income tax and the factories pay (sometimes) property tax.
Big business also attracts big business because that is where the infrastructure is and that is where the materials are and where the supply companies concentrate. Also schools set up to teach workers the specific skills some industries need.
Small cottage industries have been a part of the economy since time began. As big companies cease to make things and they drop off their product lines, as being unprofitable small manufacturing companies step in to fill in the gap. There is always space for small business who see products people want not being produced.
The problem is and has been since time began, success depends on having an education or training in a modern trade.
For a very short time, during the first part of the century, unskilled labor was able to get jobs that payed good wages. This was because of two convergent events. The westward expansion still needed unskilled labor and the invention of the assembly line gave unskilled workers a jobs within factories, most of these jobs had been done by skilled workers. But skilled workers still found jobs in the expanding economy.
However, that was the first and maybe the last time unskilled labor in history were able to get higher wages because of demand. But because demand for unskilled labor can be filled through globalization in third world countries and manufacturing machinery can be easily moved to whatever country offers the cheapest labor.
Small business will always find a demand because large companies must restrict themselves to certain product lines due to the amount of machinery and capital expenses must be used for products that have large demand and large product runs.

Brother in regulation took the engine out and blueprinted it. crucial that one have a today, long street on which to "try". My mothers and fathers had a 1961 Chevy Nomad Station Wagon plus a 1968 Ford united states of america Squire Station Wagon=======8kids. We additionally had a Chevy 1956 i think which had an airplane kind ornament on the hood. I slid off after washing it and decrease my foot requiring 4 stitches. This became into the kind that had the gasoline tank filler interior the rear left tail-easy, if i'm remembering wisely. those autos have been fairly elementary to artwork on.

No. There are laws that keep that from happening. The rest is up to the free enterprise system. Do they have to care about me individually? Should they be concerned about my feelings? There are small businesses and there will always be but larger companies will continue to exist and be more profitable. Smaller profitable businesses tend to grow and become big companies. And larry, most shareholders are middle class people like the rest of use
