I need to know if the police force in the Lakota or any of the Sioux tribes- the Akchita, I believe it's called- I need to know if these men would take part in punshing a person who the tribe took in- if this person were white?- would they punish him or put him out if he was accused of trying to molest a memeber of his adoptive family? If the "police force" would take part in this, what would they do? And if this person was sent away, how would they do that? I need an answer fast. And I already tried the Lakota Forurms website, but I couldn't find my answer. Please- a professor or somebody- answer my question!

It really depends on if the warrior society you are referring to is in operation. Even if it was, I believe it would be known only to the communities or reservation they llive on. And as far as I know yes they do still exist.Would they punish you...probably. Much of traditional is defending honor especially of women and children...
In the olden days before European contact, a member who committed a crime against another member would be banished forever from the tribe. In cases of domestic violence abuse there was a whip man master and sometimes in conjunction with the warrior society would whip the offender.
An native way of teaching is to reflect the behavior back to the person who has done wrong.
Personally I think this should be put into practice again considering the huge amount of abuse that happens to women and children.
In the Lakota way ,women are sacred as are children.
If someon who was adopted into the tribal family has committed an offense ,confess it. That is the best, no matter what spiritual path you are on . Make amends.
Today as things are on the reservation you can report this abuse to the local police...hey, it does not have to be the old style warriors.
Abuse is abuse and needs to be dealt with, especially sexual abuse. This angers me.
The sexual abuse happened to our grandmothers and grandfathers in the Christain boarding schools. This type of thing is a legacy that goes from generation to generation, no matter what people you are.But it happened to us.
Sexual abuse affects a person for the rest of their life..that is not to say some healing can happen but it is always a shadow.
Report this behavior now....
