All life forms that can adapt will adapt... and it is very likely the humans will adapt too... except of course life may not be as comfortable as it is now - think of the reduced per-capita real estate when all those coastal places just drown in the ocean, the reduced availability of fresh water, reduced crop yields, reduced bio-diversity, health problems due to increased average temperatures, so on and so forth... life may not come to a grinding halt but it's going to be a hell lot tougher...

We can't stop it. Its something the Earth does on its own. We might not be helping the situation but we are not causing it. We face big problems because of it due to our populous and industrial society like loss of property to big storms, agricultural shifts, spread of tropical diseases, and rising sea level. But I guess society will find a way to deal with it. We can't stop it. We can only learn to live with it.
