Yeah, I agree...
And more precisely, it's North America. It should be called "United States of North America."
Best regards,
A Canadian (from North America)
ps. Why are AMERICANS typically so obsessed with POWER??? Is it "short man with big truck" syndrome?
Let's all just get along :)
Peace AND Love to y'all.

People refer to the United States as America because the full name is The United States of America. America or the United States is used as a shortcut.

Technically, my country is called The United States of America. We are called Americans for convenience sake, after the name of the country. It sure beats calling us United Statesians. None of us think that our country is all of the continent of North America even, let alone Central and South America. Use a little common sense, please (por favor?) and don't make a mountain out of a molehill. That is a silly question at best, and shows a real prejudice against my country and it's people at worse.

It is a shortened version of United States of America and America is not a Continent- there is South America and North America.
Do you not know that America is not a continent????? Hello learn geography. What do you mean America is a continent from Canada to Argentina. No it isn't. There are 2 continents. North America doesn't go down to Argentina.

Because you call people from the US Americans (which sounds like from America) And it's probably the most powerful country in all of the Americas.

We are the only country that uses 'America' in our name. Calling us America is short for United State of America. It is not used to exclude other countries.

There's not a lot of logic in the nicknames for things. For instance, "liberal" politicians bear no relationship to what the word "liberal" actually means.
Besides, it's a lot easier to say America vs. the United States of America. It's just a short form of the name.

Because the united states has historically had the majority of the money and power. As that ceases to be true, the other nations on this continent will start to gain some status.
I know a few people that refer to the this place as "The Americas". I kind of like that.

Because it's the United States of America. It is shortened to either US, USA, or America. We are a very ego-centric nation in general.
