I have a YAMAHA Radian, that is having some Carb issues, I live at an Eleveation of about 5000 ft, the float height is set to 21 mm of the gasket surface, and it runs great high in the RPMs, but sometimes I had to double clutch it to get it off the line. So I made sure the carbs where clean, rechecked the floats, and ran it, and same thing. So I checked the plugs and they were sooty, so I leaned the fuel screws by 1/8th of a turn, and now it pops, like it is backfiring, and it is now running lean. The hesitation is better but still there a little. I don't want to go to much leaner, and if I do, the poping gets worse.
Help... Carbs are stock, encgine is stock other that it just had new gaskets installed, and I am running a K&N filter.

The mixture screws only affect from 0-1/4 throttle opening. The backfiring (popping) is because you made the idle mixture to lean. Turn the screws out (counter clockwise to richen the mixture and repair).
Contact me for a carburetor troubleshooting guide.
It will explain what to adjust to repair certain running conditions.
