The spot is caused by moisture being pulled into the finish (varnish, shellac, poly) by the heat. You will probably need to sand and refinish the area (or maybe the whole table). You can try rubbing the area with mayonaise first but it is doubtful it will remove it.

The ring is not in the wood. It is in the wax finish. If it were in the wood, it would be a dark stain.
I got some stuff from our hardware store. It is a cloth made for removing white rings. Works great. It is called "Jasco Furniture White Ring Remover Cleaner". There are probably other such products.

Gently rub a little white toothpaste (NOT GEL!) into the mark. The gentle grit in the toothpaste will buff the spot off of the table!

Go to Lowe's and get the Jasco Furniture White Ring Remover Cleaner. It works the best. If it doesn't come out with this then you would have to refinish that area.

Go to the refrigerator, get out the mayonaise and rub it on the spot.
No kidding, its the only thing mayonaise is used for in my house, otherwise the stuff is gross.

a rubbing alcohol dampened cloth works well for water marks in the finish. use just enough that you can see a vapor trail behind the cloth. so you dont damage the finish

Sanding and refinishing. Dollies help hide it until you can do it!
