even though i hate the man it would have to be Adolf Hitler. the man was brilliant, just nuts. and if it wasnt for WWII, we wouldnt have helicoptors, sub-machine guns, semi-automatic rifles, and atomic and nuclear weapons. the war that man started led the world to the greatest economic and social boom it has ever seen, even bringing japan into the rest of the world as an economic superpower therefore topping the industrial revolution. god forbid another adolf hitler is born, but i hope another man comes along to reshape the world on the scale at which he did.

Sad to say, but the answer has to be Hitler. I agree with Brite Tiger - for sheer impact on the world and society as we know it today, Adolf Hitler wins hands down. Many of the others have made hugely important contributions to our world and a few affect our day to day lives, but none has invaded the collective consciousness of the planet in the way that Hitler has. The impact he made was catastrophic and an embarassment to humanity, but it was massive.

Adolph Hitler caused the world to unify against
tyrants. He also was responsible for the death of
countless millions of people. In a war that lasted from 1939 to 1945, the cost of rebuilding cities
was enormous. In the billions of dollars or marks or francs or pounds. Countless families were split apart and
went to exile or death. Unthinkable "scientific"
experiments were done on human beings.
Too bad he killed himself, his trial would have been an
historic occasion.

Alexander Graham Bell.

The telephone is the most important invention ever. It changed the way the world operates as well as altering all architecture. And, of course, we would not have the 'net without it.

As Issac Newton has said, "If I saw further, that is because I am standing on the shoulders of giants." There is no one single individual who could have made the greatest impact without other people before him. :)

I'm going to agree on Bell. The phone and by extension the internet have made the world what it is today

I believe they all had a tremendous impact on the world, each in their very own way, because without even one of them the world would not be as it is today. In my own opinion, though, Bill Gates rules!Without him, all these questions and answers wouldn't be possible..;-)
