Youo cant, you would need to get a new one and then you would be better off getting the 30GB, But there is software out that will compress ipod files through the itunes or data file on your pc that you use for the videos or music you play on the pod. Do a google search for such software and see what you come up with it would be worth it if you dont have the 200.00 handy for a 30GB atm!

If you're willing to open it up you could replace the 1 GB Flash chip with a 4 GB chip but that'll take a lot of work and void the warranty (assuming you still have one).
You'd probably be better off just buying a new one.
