Why are they allowed to have all black colleges, scholarships, magazines, and tv channels? Why is it different for them but we can't have any all white-anything? If we do, we will be branded as racists but, when they do it, no one can say anything.

We don't have any tv channels that have the word 'white' in them. such as, WET. Actually I can't recall ONE thing that is excluded to 'whites only.'

hey 'mugg' i did know that. my boyfriend is actually going to a school like that because he's white. i did not ask that. i asked as to why they are ALLOWED to have these things. thanks for obviously avoiding the question, though. why is everyone getting their panties in a wad? it's a simple question which requires a simple answer. i'm not putting down black people-just a simple question. stop getting all offended, geez.

I'm just saying that blacks fought against segregation for so long but yet, you segregate yourselves anyways. why? if you wanted everyone to be equal..why have these things?

I've answered questions like this before. I'm posting one of my responses below:
My opinion is that forming groups to combat discrimination is a good thing. But what such groups need to do is fight discrimination itself rather than focusing on any specific group(s) of people. Focusing on specific groups doesn't help. Doing so allows double standards to flourish, and discrimination shifts back and forth. Likewise, racial tensions continue to build. There is absolutely no way we can end discrimination by forming this group to help black people or that group to help white people. For example: Let's say that you form an organization to help black people get loans- loans to start a business, loans for college expenses, loans to buy a house, etc...- The function of your organization is to act as a "middle man" so to speak. You look for banks and other lenders who are willing to give a little extra consideration to black people. Sound great. Doesn't it? But it isn't. Firstly, your organization isn't doing anything to help anyone else who may need the assistance just as much. By functioning based upon race, your organization is doing the same thing as the banks and lenders who give preferential treatment to white people. Secondly, nothing is being done about that preferential treatment, the discrimination against blacks and other minorities. The banks and lenders who are racist continue to discriminate. The end result is that your organization has accomplished nothing more than helping the racists banks and lenders by promoting continued seperation. The wheels of discrimination keep turning.
The "white people have this, so black people should have that" attitude (or vice versa) gets us absolutely no where. It feeds the problem instead of doing something about it. It fuels the fallacy that one race is more, or less, deserving than other races.

in no way hypocritical. Black people who're a small share of human beings are nonetheless attempting to triumph over the effect of historic oppression. The Jim Crow era became into not likely that throughout the past. So, legalized segregation is ended and blacks at the instant are thrown some crumbs, and in one day, all the effect of racism, discrimination and oppression are erased??? White human beings have possession over many components of united states of america no rely if or not they choose to or not, this could be a rustic and society that caters to the choose of white Anglo Saxon human beings. they don't choose "whites basically" something because of the fact they don't look to be grappling with the devastation of historic discrimination nor have they have been given minority prestige.

I agree with PLD. There is no such thing as an all Black college (at least in America). If you are not Black and you attend one they actually give you a minority scholarship. Yes Black scholarships exist. So does Asian and Hispanic scholarships. Yes Ebony and Essence are "Black" magazines, but people that work for them and people in the magazines aren't all Black. Do you read Vogue or Vanity Fair? They might as well call it Ivory. BET is NOT an all Black channel. If you watch BET you would know that. I can understand your question, but sometime u have to stop and think.

I agree with you 100% heather.
I find it funny how all the black people who responded went crazy for no reason.
The point is we dont blatantly go out of our way to make "white" happenings, as colored folk do. Things may BE white, but they're not exclusive and labeled that way.
I know there aren't many blacks in the ivy league schools. That's nobody's fault except the black people who choose not to apply/attend.

There are black magazines, black channels, etc. for the same reason there are channels, magazines, etc., specifically for women, men, children, Latinos, hunters, etc. They target a specific market and therefore offer products that they feel will entice that specific market to buy their service. If you do not like those products you do not have to buy them or watch those channels. (As to why you dislike only the black themed products, that is an issue you need to work out with yourself). If you feel strongly enough about it you could try to organize a boycott of these products but remember that whites make up a large percentage of the sales of "black" products". Also a large number of "black" products are manufatured by whites, including BET, Blackplanet.com, and Essence magazine.

You are being silly you know damn well just about everything else in this country is geared towards white folks, and a channel does not have to have the word "white" in it for everyone to figure out that is who a network is catering to.

I don't know the answer for that myself. I've been battling with that same question for at least a year. It's the truth though.
One day, I wish people could get past this "race" thing and come together, while celebrating all of their traditions and making new ones.

actually most mainstream media and schools are largely white. and of course the fact that for the majority of our history minorities were leally discriminated against means that now we are paying for the mistakes of our ancestors. also, the function of these things you mentioned isn't to put down whites or any other group, it's to help blacks, whereas the function of most (if not all) whites-only groups is to discriminate and attack other races

And sorry to burst your bubble heather, but did you know that white students can get minority student loans to attend black colleges? Chew on that for a little while...and then see if you have anything constructive to add.
