Do i have a mental thingy going on, it's freaking me out? i'm 15 years old, and i imagine people. every day, i go into my own little world, i pretend to be somebody else living in another family in another state. and i do things with my "brothers and sisters". except when i do this, i'm not "me". I'm Bridget, or Leslie, or whoever i want to be. i'm to old to have imaginary friends. and i'm the only one i know who does this. and i have the perfect life in real life. 2 parents still married, an older brother and sister. friends, church, sports. but no matter how hard i try, i can't stop. i keep zoning out and going into my "world". i hate it. nobody knows i do this, and don't say tell someone because i'm not going to. i've been doing this since i was 6.also i whisper whatever i'm talking to my pretend people, and i act out stuff too.it's weird. and i also come on her, make fake profiles, and pretend to be my "person" (i've deleted them) .i don't smoke anything or do any kind of drugs. HELP

It is not all that abnormal. You are just a very creative person. Try getting into writing or a local gaming group where they play role-playing games.

I do this too. All except imagine I live with another family in another state. I sorta zone out and think about all kinds a things.people tell me when i do this I stare so hard off into space and I hardly blink and i look scary and almost dead. Then even tell me sometimes my lips move and i'm talking softly. But I swear i don't remember saying a word. Were not abnormal i like my life too. Pretty much like yours except i never met my dad and I have a family full of drunks, addicts, and escorts. I will never be like them no matter how crazy someone thinks i am. Me and you aren't weird just a little more creative and imaginative than others. my creative side is where i'm strongest. I just won an art contest and I dunno creativity is just my specialty I guess. Also i have dreams and in my dreams i see the future. And every time something happens that I've seen think to myself oh i've seen this is my dreams before.I see the future in my dreams that's why i hate bad one's but at least i know it's coming. Are you like this to. Oh and i used hear voices and could move things with my mind but most of that as faded off now i guess i can only do it when I get really angry. and then it gets dangerous. It's called telekanesis.

I daydream all the time exactly how you've just described and I'm 27 and a mother of 2! No, you're not messed up in the head. It's just harmless daydreaming and it's actually fun to pretend to be someone you're not. I feel it gives you a better understanding of other people and how they may/may not live their own lives! If you really enjoy being someone else, try out for the school play or join the local drama troupe! Talk about getting it out of your system! (I like to pretend that I'm on Dancing w/ the Stars! LOL) At least if you're on stage, you can dive headfirst into your character and you can really become a great actress! Besides, you'll make great friends in the meantime! I was in school productions and had a blast! I don't regret it for one minute! I actually miss it! I never had a lead part or even 1 line to say, so I was always in the background. But I would become so absorbed in my character, that I actually stood out apart from the rest of the cast and complete strangers were so impressed w/ how believable I was! They all said that the rest of the chorus should follow my example! Check it out! There's no harm in exploring your options!

I agree that you need help. Can you help yourself? If not, the best advice is, unfortunately, to get help from someone else. If you let this go on too long, it is going to get really bad. So, try and make yourself stop, because that probably is not good for you to mentally be doing this. Can you recall the first time you actually did this? What was going on in your life then? That is the first thing you need to figure out. Are you happy with the way your life is right now in the real world? What would make it better? If anything, tell your regular doctor, and he/she should be able to point you in the right direction.

The question is...are you bored or unhappy? I promise you that you are not the only person who dreams about another life and what would happen in that life. You sound like you don't like it, so you have to figure out why you are doing it. You're spending some serious time on it, so maybe you need to find a new passion, or figure out how to make this passion into something more beneficial, like creative writing. If I were you, since you really want help, I would go to the school counselor. Your school also might have a psychologist that you can go to.

Not so outrageous, I've always done, and still do alot of that stuff (save pretending I have a different name, and fake profiles) and I'm 35 years old.
I don't believe in psychologists they're just a regular person who took some more in depth psychology classes than other people, but If you feel you need an outside person to talk to that may be an option for you...they really do help some people.

While I was reading your post it kind of reminded me of the movie Identity. I've never experience something like that but some people here are claiming that its normal for them to some extend. I have read in my psychology book about people with a psychilogical disorder inventing different personalities. I think you should see a a psychologist if you feel that you really do have a problem and its really not normal.

Ah, first of all, most people do imagine these things. Perhaps not to a great extent, but, hey, that's why there are all these movies, books, etc., to "imagine" being someone else. They are called "escape" movies/books for a reason. For a time, people can escape the pressures of real life.
The question is, is it interfering with your real life, such as family relationships or school? If so, talk to some one, trying your family first, then preachers/priest, etc.
You say you hate it, so there is a problem. But, try talking it out first.
Good luck.

As long as you don't confuse your imaginary life with real life I don't see anything wrong with it. Look at it like this, someday it may make you want to write about it and it could become the next great novel and someone will make movie about it and some actress you really like will star in it. It's day dreaming. If you feel your "real" life is good there is nothing abnormal about it! it's fun. it helps to relax you. I am 59 and i still do it. i am younger and better looking though in my "zoning out". :o)

Hi honey!
I'm not going to try to diagnose you and neither should anyone else on her because we aren't psychologists. The important thing is it is bothering you.
One of the things to remember about mental illness is that it causes a problem in your life. For example I have depression. Being sad isn't a problem but being so sad I can't get out of bed and function is. I hope that makes sense.
You should see someone. If for nothing else then reassurance.
