Serial Killer's get a lot of media attention because the severity and oddity of their crimes. Their crimes go way beyond what other people do. I am a true crime buff and do love reading books on serial killers or watching movies on them, but yes I do believe the media pays too much attention to them. The reason they do is because it is a story people would be interested in hearing. People are always want to read up on it or watch something like it. The media covers it way to much for money. It's as simple as that. I do believe the media causes people to commit copycat crimes. Therefore that person can get recognition for commiting a copycat crime, or make it look like the serial killer himself was the one that commited the crime, getting the copy cat killer off the hook. More focus should be away from people like this and spent more on people who deserve media attention.

There is a demand for shows dedicated to stories about crimes, murders and serial killers. If you are in the television business, you want those ratings--its just another demographic of viewers to tap into.
With that said, they are shown in a negative light. Its also important to show these kinds of programs to raise awareness. These kinds of things do happen to people. Its not like its just made up for entertainment and to tell a story. This is real life.
Do I think that it promotes copycats? No. If a person already has the gumption to serial kill, more than likely they are going to do it eventually. I don't think there's ever been one serial killer that has ever said--"well, I saw it on tv and thought I'd try killing 50 people.".

at the start, all of us understand that serial killers at the instant are not mentally healthful in any respect. with a view to alter into so sick mined, they're aspects that led to a quiet some circuits to malfunction. perhaps a terrible previous? or maybe merely an ailment in the recommendations. all of us understand approximately actual disabilities yet those terrible people, face it, are sufferers of disabilities of their recommendations the place they don't function like commonly used people. a lot of people decrease than estimate psychological ailments. I mean if we are in a position to have people born without limbs why isn't not a possibility for individuals to be born without particular purposes of their brains. we've people born with greater arms, a tails, extras of something. Why not an further something in the recommendations that reasons atypical habit. Its unusual nevertheless, that those malfunctions reason those people to kill others. As for their destiny lives, that lies in gods purpose. in spite of the undeniable fact that, i for my section have faith all people is born harmless and dies harmless. The fabricated from their lives is as a results of the climate that surronded it or the climate that stepped forward interior of. i'm not taking the area of 'serial killers' and that i dont sell what they nor do i've got faith its commonly used simply by their malfunctioning in society yet there is usually a narrative in the back of someones behaviour.

They get their attention, but it's given negatively, whileas you have heroes who get awards and positive recognition. For some people out there, as sick as it is, they enjoy seeing the serial killers receiving attention and that they actually look up to them for future crimes. I think they should have the media's attention so other people can become aware of what's happening out there, but when they raise awareness, I think there should be more changes in people's safety.

I agree that the media sets it up for future copycats by giving the number of victims. It's sickening when they say that XYZ killed 21 people in 1997 and ABC killed 32 last April and now 123 has killed 47. It's like they're daring someone to break the record. Why can't they just say Jeffrey Dahmer was guilty of killing numerous people, some of whom were never found?

People need to be aware of threats to their safety. To attempt to know a copycat from the original is why the police withhold certain evidence.

i beleive that it is important to raise awareness of them, but not in the way that you described. some people are just too sick and should be shunned from humans. then again, whatever your standards are....
