That belt goes from the motor to turn the beaters of the rug cleaning part. Unplug the vacuum and see if you can flip open the clips that hold that brush rolling piece in place. The odds are that the bearings on both ends of that beater brush are jammed up with hairs and lint from the rugs. Look at the edges of those ends and you will probably see a bunch of crud sticking out. Grab that stuff with a tweezers or pliers and try to free up the moving part (on a Hoover you can loosen the end pieces to make that easier). Once you get the junk off both sides the roller will roll freely so put a drop of oil in there to help the easy rolling. Now put the roller and the belt back and it should work without the roller stopping and the belt burning.

Remove the pulleys or wheels holding the belt on. Their probably full of hair, and other stuff that's causing the belt not to turn. After cleaning those, apply a little 3 in 1 oil,but only a drop, and not where the belt goes on them.Put it where they turn. Than when you replace the belt, rub a little hand soap (bar) on the belt. That will make it grip better. This should correct the problem. Bye

when the belt burns off or breaks the problem is the brush at the front of the vac being to tight...this is the only thing the belt actually drives... it is full of hair and carpet fuzz at the ends where the bearings are...take cover off bottom of vac and pull brush assy out...bearings normally just slide off...clean all the hair and carpet fuzz off of brush and away from bearing assembly.....soak bearings in 30 weight motor oil, never use 3in1 oil....reassemble and see if brush assy is free.....everything should be fine after this.....

I would look for reasons the belt is burning -

something is not right

does the rotor the belt turns - turn freely?
need to be oiled in the bearings?

adjustment needed?

best of luck

Without knowing details; I would say your getting to much friction from the carpet on your beater bar. try not setting vacuum to low to carpet.Or most vacuums have ajustable beater bars they are color coded or numbered. insert beater bar at highest setting visually or measure from base to bristle tip. good luck

replace it! It will cost less than having to pay someone to fix it. It may be really clogged up.
