The can obviously came before the can opener because they would have had to make the can first because nobody would of thought of the idea for a can opener without the can

The can of course! But, my friend, they were totally useless since they could not be opened; therefore a new technological advancement was needed for this great invention. POOF! the can opener was invented.

The can opener was first of course. Then later, someone said, hey I have a great idea, lets make cans! And they did.

The can, but than someone realized they'd have to open the can to get what's in it out of it. So they invented the can opener.

Hopefully the same person invented both at the same time, but I would guess the can came first.

Probably the can.
But they were just too hard to open
and so the can opener came into the picture.

THe can, i guess. because if it wasn't for the can, to invent a can opener would have been a waste of time.
